Highlands Tanzania is an exciting youth camp and conference facility located in the crossroads of the country. Nestled under the Uluguru Mountains just outside the city of Morogoro, the camp is one bus ride from anywhere in Tanzania.
This camp was designed for the country’s youth, with a water slide, swimming pool, football pitch, and obstacle course. There is a multipurpose court for team sports and three volleyball courts. The meeting facilities has a capacity of 1,000. The cafeteria was set up to feed the same — 1,000 campers in one hour. At present, over 600 young people can be housed in the dorms.
Highlands Tanzania was established to:
- Reach young people of Tanzania with the Good News of the Gospel
- Assist in the elevation of youth and adult Christian leaders
- Provide a positive environment for recreation, education and training facilities, and practical assistance for the benefit of these groups
- Organize or assist in organizing meetings, lectures, classes and exhibitions, and/or assist in other forms of information
Over sixty percent of Tanzania is under 24 years of age. The main priority of Highlands Tanzania is to reach youth with the Gospel of Christ and from there direct them in their growth with practical training.
The second priority of Highlands is to enable local pastors in Bible training through seminars and long-term classes toward certifications. Estimates from various sources place formal education of national pastors as low as five percent. Providing training and support for Tanzanian pastors is vital for the discipleship of new Christians.
